Hey guess what? I think I can speak for a majority of women by saying we have unwanted hair. Whether it’s on our faces, underarms, or legs, we have hair in certain places and we want it gone. So I’ve been trying several different removal products (long before I started this blog) and I thought I’d share my findings with you all out there in the interwebs :). All of these, except one, was used on my legs. I have dark hair, that is somewhat hard to remove and I do not have sensitive skin. Hopefully this helps!

Sally Hansen Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit |
Ease of Use: 4/5, Pain Quota: 5/5 |
Where to begin? These are just strips of plastic with a solid gel wax between them. You warm the strip with your hands and then peal them apart, place them wherever you want the hair removed. Smooth them on then pull off. Sounds easy, and for the most part it is. I warn you though, warm the strip up thoroughly! If you have a space heater, briefly place the strip in front of it, until it gets slightly warm then use. If you don’t do this then too much wax will stay on one side and it will hurt when you remove it. Pain yup, just like normal wax, they hurt, but get the job done. I stayed hair free for about 2 weeks. |
Nair Shower Gel |
Ease of Use: 4/5, Pain Quota: 2/5 |
These are the most basic depilatories that are available. You simply put the cream/gel on your hair then wait for the allotted time, mine is usually 8 mins., never wait more than 10 mins, then shower off and viola! If it worked no more hair…that’s the key. Your hair has to be long enough, about an eighth of an inch (yikes!) And you need to let the cream do its job. Downside is definitely the length part, and the smell. Overall though, minimal work, for a fairly decent result 🙂 |
Veet In Shower Gel Hair Removal |
Ease of Use: 3/5, Pain Quota: 2/5 |
Same basic points as above, just a cream you squeeze onto your hands, and place onto your legs. These aren’t meant to be ‘rubbed in’ so it’s not a lotion. I hate, hate, hate these stupid squeeze tube things. No matter how you do it, there’s always a mess and you either have to take time to place the cream on your legs with only one hand, or use both, then make the tube a mess when you go back for more. I know I have more leg space than the average gal out there, but there wasn’t enough for two solid uses. Maybe I use too much, but if I used thinner layers the hair didn’t remove as cleanly. This wasn’t expensive, but about $5 each time I remove hair? No gracias… |
Veet Hair Removal Gel |
Ease of Use: 4/5, Pain Quota: 3/5 |
Broken record, eh? Well my main concern with this cream is that this one comes with a fake razor that you use to remove the cream. If you lose the fake razor, you’re like me and kinds screwed. The fake razor has this rubber edge that helps to pull hair out thusly making the overall look better. Still a decent product without it, but you have to find something to remove the cream with. (Usually wash clothes aren’t recommended) |
Sally Hansen Spray on Shower off Hair Remover |
Ease of Use: 1/5, Pain Quota: 0/5 |
WHAT THE HECK SALLY HANSEN? Ok, now that I’m calm again, seriously?? Ok when I began this search for hair removal products I read these reviews that praised this product. Every reviewer said this worked great and the hair was gone after they used it. I agree, it works great…fellow reviewers why did none of you warn me? Normally I put this stuff on in the bathroom, then go get my phone as a timer, grab my iPod etc. The normal creams stay put, this foam thing did not. It sprayed out as a foam so I thought oh cool! As soon as I began walking though this stuff slid off my legs and clumped onto the rug. Even as I tried to walk gently, it still slid down and eventually landed on the rug. Dang, I really wanted this one to be my winner too. 😦 |
Sally Hansen Cream Hair Removal Kit for Face |
Ease of Use: 5/5, Pain Quota: -4/5 |
No pain at all, and it gets the job done. No matter the hair length, everything is removed. Why can’t I find a product like this for my legs?? |
Sally Hansen Brush on Hair Removal Cream |
Ease of Use: 0/5, Pain Quota: 1/5 |
No this is not pictured about, simply because I tried it once and then tossed it. This thing is so messy. The little brush thing didn’t work after the third pass and honestly, there was only enough product for one and maybe one half applications. No way could I have used this twice and had the same result. |
Bic Razors |
Ease of Use: 4.5/5, Pain Quota: 4/5 |
There’s a reason these are a staple. They work. Now you do have to shave more often, and make sure you don’t cut yourself, but they work 🙂 |
These hair removal products are temporary products. They cannot remove the hairs permanently. Laser and IPL are the only methods which can remove the hairs permanently. So I would like to suggest everyone to use these methods.
This is true. I know though that I can’t afford the treatments necessary or the tools that they sell for over $100. In the long run it might be more beneficial, but I can spend $6 every month versus $100 a month more easily. 🙂 I would recommend the procedures to people who can afford them though, since it’s always a pain to remove hair! lol
